Research Day 2023

Laura Armijos (D3) and Bahar Boroumand Rad (D3) presented their community-engaged research projects at the 2023 Research Day Symposium hosted by the VCU School of Dentistry on April 20th, 2023. This research stems from our group's refugee and immigrant oral health initiative, which was launched in 2022 with funding from the Community-Engaged Research Health Equity Grant from the VCU Office of Institutional Equity, Effectiveness and Success. Through this initiative, local community leaders established the Greater Richmond Refugee and Immigrant  Community Advisory Board.

Throughout this past year, Laura and Bahar learned a wide range of research skills including how to conduct semi-structured interviews, analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and collaborate in a transdisciplinary research team.

"I'm very proud of Laura and Bahar for making the decision to integrate community-based participatory research as part of their dental education training as this shows their commitment to centering marginalized communities in their future dental practice," said Dra. Garcia.
